PODcast Library-AutoCAD-Revit-ADT-Civil3D

Ok iPodders.... are looking for something to download to your iPods. Something to listen to on the train, bus or during your drive home? This site features 5-7 minute downloadable podcasts featuring outtakes from my Taylor Tech architectural blog and my co-blogger Doug Benoit P.E. civil engineering blog.

If you don't have an iPod, simply play the audio file online or download the MP3 file....play it in your MP3 player or Windows Media Player.

We've been producing PODcasts for almost year; so bookmark this site and drop by regularly for new audio feeds.

Then again, what's a PODcast?

And what's an iPod?

Free Online Revit Training - The Basics

This is a free online audio-video webcast training session from the Autodesk Archives. While this session uses Revit 7, "The Basics" is still valid to the current version of Revit.

In this web session, new or prospective users can discover the basic concepts of project design with the Autodesk® Revit® building information modeler. Learn how to create and modify basic components of a building model, such as walls, curtain systems, doors, and roofs; apply constraints to the building model to capture design intent; and make changes to the building model that are applied projectwide to all views, thus ensuring consistency, improving productivity, and boosting profitability.

One of the benefits of transferring my data to a new computer is finding all the bookmarks and favorites I've gathered from the last 2 years. Looks like there will be more to post.

FacilityBlog - from Today's Facility Manager: National Building Information Model Standards Committee Formed to create the National BIM Standard

Just additional confirmation that client defined deliverables created by BIM software like Revit Building, Revit Structure & soon Revit Systems will be required in the near future.

FacilityBlog - from Today's Facility Manager: National Building Information Model Standards Committee Formed to create the National BIM Standard

The National Institute of Building Standards (NIBS) through its Facility Information Council (FIC) has formed a committee to create the National Building Information Model Standard (NBIMS). The Standard is considered to be a critical element in reforming business practices in the capital facilities industry and recapturing at least $15B annually lost due to inefficiencies.

Free Online Revit Training-Design Options

I've collected quite a few Revit shortcuts in my Favorites folder that I have forgotten. I came across this one and a few others today. They're links to free online audio-video webcast training that Autodesk conducted for Revit 7. While it's an older release, the procedures are still applicable if you are just getting to know this feature.

This training webcast reviews Revit's Design Options feature.

This webcast is for designers who want to get into the trenches with the Revit Design Option feature. Have you ever wanted to explore two different window and roof configurations without having to make copies of your design? Autodesk Revit can help designers explore many different design configurations within the same building information model, using the powerful “Design Option” feature. Learn how to explore different design requests right in front of the client for fast approval with minimal change orders later in the process.

I found several more free training links. I'll start posting them after I verify their functionality.

Revit Building 9 and AutoCAD 2007 Review

The twelve pages of Revit Building 9 new features and modifications demonstrates that the Autodesk Revit Development Team is listening for user suggested improvements to Revit.

It starts with file import/export tools that provide direct import of native SketchUp files (SKP). An expanded CSI-organized detail library, I-drop support, animated Sun Studies that can be exported to AVI, sloped beams, columns with top/bottom constraints and we can now transfer drafting views, sheets and data schedules to other projects. As I said, 12 pages of additions and improvements.

The Revit WOW takes a big leap as Revit 9 is also prepped for Revit Systems(MEP) which has an expected ship date of April 19th !

Revit Systems - Series Plus is a new offering featuring Autodesk Building Systems as part of the suite. The link downloads a 12 page PDF description file.

Revit Structure 3 / Series expected ship date of April 12th.

And Revit Building 9 / Series expected ship date of April 9th.

My Revit Building 9 beta version has been working great as we run it through the paces. I always hold my breath as we approach First Customer Ship (FCS) hoping the great beta version features I see are released at FCS. As I said, 12 pages of additions and improvements…there's a good chance it will all make it to FCS.

Use the links above for immediate detailed information about each new product. We'll continue to update this blog and those links with the specifics on Revit 9 additions and improvements over the next few days and weeks.

Cheers to the expanded Revit Platform!
